Sour Cream Holiday Cookies

Ingredients

1 cup shortening
2 cups brown sugar
1 egg, well beaten
1 cup sour cream
1 ½ tsp vanilla
½ tsp baking soda
¼ tsp salt
4 ½ cups sifted flour
1 tsp baking powder

Instructions

Cream shortening and sugar. Add well beaten eggs and mix well. Add sifted dry ingredients alternately with sour cream, to which 1 ½ tsp vanilla has been added. Roll on floured board. Cut with cookie cutters in desired shapes. Bake at 400 degrees for 8 – 10 minutes.

Notes

Sour Cream Frosting
1 cup commercial sour cream
2 cups sifted powdered sugar
1 tsp grated orange or lemon rind

Combine ingredients and beat until fluffy. Spread on cooled baked cookies.
