Chocolate Bit Cookies

Chocolate Bit Cookies - Feature

Chocolate Chip Cookies or Chocolate Bit Cookies? Chips or Bits…does it really matter?

August 4th is National Chocolate Chip Cookie day. Unfortunately, I missed it by one day ☹ Once I realized, I grabbed my Cookies by Bess cookie book to find a Chocolate Chip Cookie recipe. Believe it or not, I couldn’t find one! There is one recipe that is close, Chocolate Bit Cookies…which, after reading the recipe, I realized is very close to your typical Chocolate Chip Cookie recipe…it just calls for “bits” instead of “chips”.

Of course, thanks to Bess, there is another little twist to make these cookies even better that the traditional Chocolate Chip Cookies…the recipe mentions the option of adding raisins. I was excited to see this because I love raisins! Chocolate covered raisins are one of my favorite candies, so the thought of having them together in a cookie sounded like a great idea to me!

I was so happy to find a Cookies by Bess recipe to help celebrate National Chocolate Chip Cookie day and excited about the Cookies by Bess raisin twist!

This recipe is a basic drop cookie recipe, so I’m rating it 1-star for cookie difficult.

I pulled all my ingredients together, got organized, and got started!

As I was creaming the butter and sugars together, I realized this recipe could easily be doubled. The amount of cookie dough the recipe made as written was perfect, I was able to finish baking quickly. Also, I really didn’t need 6 – 7 dozen cookies…3 ½ dozen the recipe made was just enough!

Who doesn’t love chocolate chip cookie dough?  Just check out this picture!  AMAZING is what comes to mind! After blending all the ingredients, I added the chocolate bits (actually, I added real Nestle Toll House chocolate chips!). The dough tasted as amazing as it looked!

I read the recipe one more time, just to make sure I got everything right and realized I forgot the raisins! Luckily, I had just enough raisins in my pantry. Raisins a perfect addition to this cookie. They give just the right amount of sweetness to the semi-sweet chocolate chips. Another winner idea! Great job Grandma Bess!

As always, I baked a test batch of cookies. I’m glad I did, because these cookies over baked at 8 minutes! My remedy for this is to add additional flour.  In this case, I ended up adding another ¼ cup, which seemed to do the trick.

Once I had the dough the consistency I wanted, I started baking full batches. I used a heaping teaspoon full of dough for each cookie.

The cookies spread as you would expect from regular chocolate chip cookies. I let the cookies bake for 10 minutes. This seemed to be the right amount of time to give them a golden-brown color. I let them sit on the cookie sheet for a just a minute or two before removing them to the cooling rack.

As I mentioned, I was done baking after just 3 or so batches! These Chocolate Bit cookies turned out great! Chocolate chips together with the raisins, such a great combination! I will say that I miss having nuts…the recipe doesn’t call for them, but I might add them anyway next time. ?

I guarantee these cookies will be a huge hit, with or without the raisins! They are so good you might as well just go a head and double the recipe to make sure you have enough for family and friends!

Enjoy!

XXOO,

Janet
